Ideas for Next Men’s Study

by Eric Stephens on February 12, 2009

We’ve been working our way through Knowing God covering the major aspects of God’s character. Now that we approach the end of this book I’m starting to think about what’s next. Two recent titles by Mark Driscoll come to mind. Not because they are Mark Driscoll [which is a WHOLE other conversation :-)] but because they cover core elements of Christian Theology. Vintage Jesus and Vintage Church cover the Doctrines of Christ and the Church respectively. I’ve read Vintage Jesus and it does a very good job of hitting the major points well.

We could also venture into the topic of Christian Apologetics. There is no shortage of literature here for us to delve into. Mere Christianity is considered a classic by many and is being used in one of the Connection groups right now. Another book, The Reason for God (Timothy Keller) is a NY Times bestseller and covers the major topics in Christian Apologetics in a rigorous way yet retains a high degree of readability. However, PK is thinking about this book for the summer CSoT so we might want to pick something else. Another series Know What (Why) You Believe by Paul E. Little also comes to mind. This covers the basics of Christianity with some apologetic background.

Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life is another book that covers the “blocking and tackling” of Christianity. While works don’t save, this book provides a nice playbook of what a Christian can “do” in order to put themselves in God’s way and grow.

So what do you think? What would appeal to you? Are there areas of your Christian journey where we can partner with you? Let me know via a comment below or email.

Peace!!!
