Colossians 2:1-5

by Pastor Ken on July 26, 2009

I’m not sure if you were following the news or not, but there was a story out of Phoenix, AZ about a young girl - 8 years old - who was raped by four young boys, ranging in age from 9 to 14.  Indeed this is a tragic situation.  But even more so, the parents of this young girl now view her as an outcast - they want nothing to do with her.  How sad that such a worldview that would lead parents to treat their children as refuse actually exists in our world.

When we hear of this sort of thing, there is an inborn reaction inside of us that says that something is very wrong here.  There rises from within us a longing for the right to prevail and for the wrong to be conquered.  There is rightly so a standard of expectations that the average American expects every parent to meet.

In our Christian context, there is, also rightly so, a standard of expectations that the average churchgoer expects from their leaders.  The apostle Paul certainly endeavored to walk above reproach and live a life fully pleasing to God.  What would it look like in our own lives if we availed ourselves of the grace of God so richly available to us, and lived out that grace in our day to day lives?  Let’s take Paul’s words to heart today as we think about this question.
