Many of us probably caught one of the NFL games this past weekend. Or maybe you were watching Monday night as the Cowboys and the Panthers went head to head. Speaking of head to head, if you’ve watched football for any length of time, you’ve seen some pretty amazing hits, and probably wondered, “That’s gotta hurt.” But so often after a tackle, the players get back up and take their place at the line, only to knock into each other again.
Perhaps you saw the report out of the University of Michigan regarding whether or not there are any lasting effects to the players for these kinds of actions. Although some parties would say the results are inconclusive, this report states that there is a far greater chance, in fact 19 times greater, for an NFL player to be plagued with some memory-loss related issues, such as Alzheimer’s.
Beloved, there are natural consequences to our actions, as we’ll see in the text before us. May we learn from such kings as Abijam, Asa, and Nadab that when we partake in behavior that goes against the precepts of God, it might not be long before others are saying of us, “That’s gotta hurt.”
