Have you ever wondered what the most common lost-time accident for pastors is? You might think, “Maybe it’s a paper-cut, or super-gluing their fingers together.” Well, believe it or not, the most common accident for pastors is falling off ladders!
Unfortunately, it’s usually when they’re doing something that someone else ought to handle - changing a light bulb in an exceptionally high location - “I’ve got this…whoa!!” - or, making some adjustments to some decorations on a high wall - “Just a little closer…oh no!!” It’s too bad that many, many pastors can be so rich in knowledge, but unfortunately a little short on wisdom!
There’s no doubt about it that, as one of the characters in our story experiences, when we ignore wise instruction, we instead invite destruction. If we walk this kind of a course, sooner or later we’re going to take a fall. As has so often been the case through these studies, let’s be wise and learn from the falls of others, rather than taking those falls ourselves.
